This project was a gut renovation of the only two bathrooms in our clients’ 1920s North Capitol Hill home. Because both spaces had compact existing footprints, the design focused on making each bathroom feel highly functional and distinctive without compromising the character of the house.
On the main floor, the bathroom is tucked beneath the staircase, leaving very little opportunity to expand. Every inch had to be carefully considered so the sink would fit comfortably while still allowing the glass shower door to swing open. Upstairs, we retained the home’s original cast-iron bathtub and focused on adding as much storage as possible through a new vanity and recessed wall cabinet.
